What do I need to know when buying a horse float?

So you've made a decision to either buy your first horse float, trade your old one in or you need another one for your growing family. There's a few things you should keep in mind before you get the ball rolling.

  1. Whats your budget? Horse Floats range in price from $10,000 right through to $100,000 dollars, these could be brand new or second hand - some manufacturers will only stock a standard product which sits on the show room floor and others are prepared to work along side you to design something to suit your needs

  2. Any Float Extras needed? When towing a float ask yourself the question "What don't I have now that will make those trips away a bit easier" these types of things might include - An extra water tank, portable yards, cupboards, bunk beds, an extra tack box. Rather than paying the extra cost down the track to get these items added it would be more cost effective to get them done first.

  3. Whats Towing it? Some horse floats can be quite bulky and heavy, a brand new shiny horse float may look good but if the your set of wheels is struggling to pull the load it may end costing you more in the long run through the maintenance or even fuel consumption, ideally before you buy - see how it feels on the road first.

  4. What if something goes wrong? There is always that element of doubt when buying a Horse Float that something may break or go wrong down the track, ask the manufacturer if there is a warrantys or guarantee's available.

  5. I love my Horse Float! Buying a horse float should be something you enjoy, like getting your first car or updgrading your old one, this is a special place for your four legged friend and to ensure the comfort of your horse be sure to choose the right float, ask around and get some different opions!
